Introducing our group
Our Firm Roots, Kirkheaton group is currently made up of around 10 members.
The purpose of our group is to pray for and encourage those with a cancer diagnosis, and people close to or supporting someone with cancer. A cancer diagnosis can have a profound effect upon someone and their loved ones. We are a Christian group, but we welcome people of other faiths or no faith - to befriend, listen to and pray for each other. Our meetings have a relaxed, flexible agenda; we usually start with tea / coffee and cake and brief introductions. We aim to provide a safe space for people to share as much or as little as they wish; anything shared within the meeting remains confidential between group members.
As a cancer prayer support group, we pray and commit the evening to God. Each meeting has a theme, a brief talk and a look at some Bible verses. We also have a list which we update monthly with brief details of people who have requested prayer: again, this is confidential to group members and data is protected in accordance with GDPR.
One of the strengths of our group is the honesty between members. We find that people are able to give and receive strength, comfort and support by sharing their story with others affected in a similar way to themselves. Questions, fears and experiences are able to be shared.
